Photo exhibits at the Kapolei Public Library and Hawaii State Library culminated a photography workshop series conducted by three UP alumni in Hawaii – Dennis Bondocoy, Tim Llena, and Gio Sabio. The curated images were displayed as part of the celebration of the October Filipino American History Month.
The workshops covered three topics in photography: Nature/ Landscape Photography conducted by Dennis; Documentary/Street Photography by Tim; and Portrait/ Studio Photography by Gio. Each topic included a lecture on concepts, a photo shoot on location, and a photo critique session.
Workshop participants went on fun adventures during the photo sessions on location. For Nature and Landscape photography, the enthusiasts drove to The Valley of Temples, nestled at the foot of the Koolau mountains in Kaneohe. Chinatown in Downtown Honolulu proved to be an ideal location for Documentary/ Street Photography.
Capturing the personalities of subjects through lighting techniques and engagement with subjects was the focus of the Portrait/Studio photographers. The lecture and photo critique sessions were done in different indoor settings in casual discussions, providing an atmosphere that is perfect for the creative process.
Tim Llena was the Workshop Organizer and Exhibit Curator.
